The award recognizes contributions to a specific achievement or invention that was recently commercialized, demonstrating benefits over current offerings. The award is interpreted broadly and can involve innovation in one or more of the following categories: Materials, materials manufacturing, new processes, process improvements, reduction of energy/emissions, novel ideas in data sciences, simulation tools, societal impact and other related areas.

Eligibility
- The award will be presented to an individual. When a team is involved, the nomination will identify the lead contributor whose contributions will be elaborated in the nomination letter.
- The said innovation, or its greatest impact, should have been made within the past three years from the date of nomination.
- The nominee and the nominator should be members of the society at the time of nomination and at the time of receiving the award
- The nomination package should include:
- Details of the innovation, evidence of creativity and impact, the individual’s role in the innovation
- Names of two referees who can be reached for an opinion.
Award Committee
- The IAS president will nominate a committee of three members with a majority demonstrating substantial industrial expertise.
